Check Up Time

>> 12/26/13

It's time for my thyroid check-up, I guess.  I called my doctor to have him call in my prescriptions and got a call back that I have to get blood tests done and come see him again. *sigh*

When I'm feeling fine, and obviously managing my thyroid just fine, I hate this waste of time and money. 13 years of thyroid disease...that's a lot of doctor appointments and tests.

Guitar Addictions

As a guitar player, what do you always have on hand?

  • guitar stands
  • guitar picks
  • guitar straps
  • anything else?
We have many of each in our home to go with the dozen guitars we have in this house.  It actually may be more than a dozen. I've lost count.  There are floor stands, wall hangers, there are straps packed away for use, there are actually containers with compartments for the hundred of guitar picks my husband has (and collects) and several capos in a variety of colors.

Guitars are my husband's addiction. (It makes for good threat material - you ever cheat, I have a bonfire with all your guitars - LOL.)  We'll be married 18 years soon and no cheating. Maybe my threat on his babies works! Kidding!

Christmas Tree Hangover

Anybody else ready to take the tree down? I am ALWAYS ready to take it down as soon as Christmas is over to get it out of my living room and make space (we're cramped here with six of us). The family wants it left up until after New Year's. Noooooo! LOL

99% Done with Shopping!

>> 12/18/13

With the exception of the people who take care of our horses, I am done with shopping for the holidays! My stepdaughter's gift will arrive to her Saturday. My stepson received his today. We went with an element for his music making. One day, I'm sure he's hoping to be rich enough to buy himself a modulus bass guitar but our bank account can afford the MPC Element we bought him.

I am still waiting for a few deliveries here at home for my kids and still have to ship my mother's gift out to her (Kindle - we're going to get her hooked up technologically speaking in baby steps!), but 99% of the actual shopping - done!

3.7 Pounds Left

No weight gained over Thanksgiving. Not bad for eating so much. I ate to the point of STUFFED for three days straight, but I watched what I ate. Anything that might aggravate my gallstones (fried, fatty foods), I ate but not to excess. It was so yummy.

3.7 pounds left to lose and no gallstone attack over Thanksgiving.  Bonus!

Cold Football Fun

>> 11/28/13

Our local football team went to the play-offs.  What a fun time we had! It was very cold, had me wishing for my foot warmer electric but we got through it.  Getting one of those seats that have warmers in it is on my list of things to buy for the 2014 football season.

I am NOT a sports fan at all but our local high school football team (where my kids attend) makes it so fun to watch. Who would have thought I'd like football?

Not me.

Now I need finger warmers too.

Waiting Job Opportunities

My husband may have a new job opportunity with his current employer.  It's actually a pay cut (no overtime) but it'd be a great learning experience for his future. The hours are perfect for our family as well.  We have our *fingers crossed* this comes through!

There was another job he thought about with his current employer but they required welding and he hasn't welded all that much. I think they provide the supplies for that position which isn't too bad. I know some companies require you bring your own tools. He looked up some information at atl welding supplies to price just in case, but I think he'd be covered.

If the new opportunity doesn't come through, we may move back home.

Musical Geniuses

>> 11/7/13

Yes, my kids are and I'm not shy about saying it. They get it from their dad.

I am looking at a little Luna guitar for my daughter for Christmas. It is so pretty. It's a little 3/4 size guitar called 'Starry Night'. It's very pretty.

We don't have any bass players in this house so I was thinking about an exceptional spector bass for one of our kids. I don't think my stepson would enjoy it but perhaps my son would. He plays drums so he definitely can keep rhythm. His drumline show last week at his high school was fantastic. I love watching him in the drumline. Perhaps he'd like to learn bass as well.

Endocrinologists

I am at the doctor's for my asthma this morning and she feels my neck, notices how enlarged the thyroid area is and asks me if I see an endocrinologist. Pfft. Aw, heck no. I stay WAYYYYY the heck away from those.

I've found the best doctors for my thyroid have been regular family doctors who are willing to listen to me, willing to acknowledge my symptoms and treat according to symptom.

I'll likely never see another endocrinologist - EVER. Nothing but bad luck seeing them and YEARS of feeling terrible because they didn't treat my thyroid disease right.

Christmas Shopping Starts

>> 10/29/13

What's on everybody's Christmas list this year?  I have no idea here.  I told my kids a few weeks ago I wanted Christmas lists by now but they haven't given me anything. Does that mean I can get them whatever "I" want? Pfft. Doubt it!

My husband usually has his presents picked out a month ahead of time for himself (from me, of course). He picked out his own birthday present this year (a guitar). I just ordered it and am waiting for it to arrive. Nice, eh?

Burn Remedy

>> 8/27/13

What is the best natural remedy you know of for burns?  I am making hair accessories for my kids and the hot glue gun keeps burning my fingers! It's a Wal-Mart hot glue gun for goodness sake, not an adhesive and high temperature glue here. Just a little pink glue gun for me.  After half dozen flowers glued, my fingers have had enough. That stuff sticks to everything!

I have an aloe plant (but that stuff kinda stinks).  I can use it though.  I have used vinegar for sunburn but not sure it'd work in the same way for this kind of burn.  I have some type of silver cream from the hospital from when my daughter grabbed a few hundred degrees of curling iron from the wrong end and burned her palm, but I'd rather not use that unless it's a major burn.  It's good stuff.

I'm looking for a mild, natural burn remedy.

Cannabis Oil

Yes, it's legal in some states for the medical grade stuff but you can buy it at Amazon (probably more of a food grade hemp oil).

Have you read of all the health improvements being claimed with cannabis oil?  I have recently been reading about it and want to learn more.  Anybody use this and does it help?

I've heard many things - cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, general health.

If the skin cancer claims and cannabis are true, wow is our government and Big Pharma holding out on us, at the expense of our health and lives.

Mudding

The thing to do in our little redneck town is for the kids to go mudding.  I thought that meant jumping on a cheap atv and playing in the mud with it. Nope, they take their nice jeeps and trucks and get mud in every crevice possible on the truck and themselves.

Yeah, I'd rather take the ATV rather than risk damage to an automotive vehicle.

They post pictures of their mess afterward and they're quite proud of themselves.  They look like they are having fun anyway.  If my kid did that and messed up one of our cars, she'd be in SO much trouble.

Medication Update

So far, the two week periods have held off.  *whew*  Maybe that means my thyroid medication is leveling off somewhat?  I know it's not right entirely yet because there are days I feel like I am going to jump out of my skin.

I'm still missing something. Selenium? Magnesium? Iodine? Vitamin D? All of the above? I don't know.

Financial Relief: End of Child Support

>> 8/17/13

Child support is done (unless the ex goes back to court with some reason why my husband should pay for adults).  It ended in July and the case is officially closed at the end of September.

This month, we got our bills paid on time.  Boy, has that been nice. It's been hard and it's been long but it's finally over.  My husband is all for taking care of his minor children - he was always on time and paid up. However, it is a relief for our large family not to have that court order hanging over our head, struggling to make ends meet. About two years ago, we even had a bankruptcy free consultation because it was soooo hard to pay our necessary bills.  We didn't go through with the bankruptcy and we kept our heads barely above water to get to this point.

Whew.  What a relief.

Total Switch To Naturethroid

I tried to switch solely to Naturethroid (stopping the T3 pill) and it isn't working out too well.  My period started a week after my last period! I thought, eh, it's just spotting.  Nope, full on menstruation.  I had some of the premenstrual signs ALL.  THE.  TIME.  (to the point hugs hurt my chest!!).

Great.

I LOVE Naturethroid instead of the Synthroid, but right now, I must not be converting T4 to T3 still (my reverse T3 problem).

I will not go back to Synthroid.  I am going to keep with the Naturethroid.  I need to figure out why I'm not converting still.  I'm missing something.  Either I figure it out or I take Naturethroid daily plus a T3 pill.

Husband's Music Phases

>> 8/2/13

I got home tonight from an emergency vet visit (dog is now OK, our bank account, however, is not anymore) to find an empty amp box (from hubby's current amp) in my living room - like it is just sitting there waiting to get packed up.  I wonder if that means my husband is selling that one to get something else or a different amp.  I am thinking - - probably!

His auction/sale for his recording microphones is going on now (hmmm...I wonder if he remembered to include the monster audio at musicians friend cable or if he is keeping that for himself).  I think he is done recording and is just going to sit around the house, take out one of his many guitars, and play just to play.

Only time will tell.  He goes through these phases.  You just have to ride through them and wait for the next one to come up.

Want My Own Business

>> 7/31/13

So, I am getting excited.  My husband's legal ties to his ex ended this month.  We have been waiting for this moment for years so that we could finally buy a house big enough for all of us (his two plus our four...makes for a lot of people).

Anyway, I found this house I know I could love.  It is double the size of our current house and has 14 acres.  It is plenty big enough for yard for the kids, acreage for our two horses, plus perhaps my own home business - a dog kennel.

I think I could really make a go of this home business.  We can have a sign made for the road frontage, get some wholesale business cards printed up, and I can be home for our kids plus still have my own business. I really love this idea.  I just wish we had put our house on the market already.  I'm afraid this property is going to be gone when we can finally buy.

My own business - with advertising, business cards, and everything!

Financial Markets

I am a political person.  I follow the current news and what our wonderful (that would be sarcasm) politicians are doing.  I don't understand it all though.  The financial markets stump me.  When I hear that the value of the U.S. dollar is going down, I don't understand what that means.

I do hear a lot about buying silver and gold, the worth of each, etc. I have jewelry that is both silver and gold but I don't think that's what they mean.  I've been looking at gold and silver coins at http://www.goldeneaglecoin.com.  That is one option. I mean, I can't be Fort Knox with bars of gold lining my closets, but coins are a possibility.

This is definitely one area I need to educate myself.

Horsey Love

>> 7/27/13

I asked hubby a couple weeks ago to make me a tack box for the stable.  I want one made out of nice wood, sealed so the bugs can't crawl into them. Seriously, I  hate reaching into the box I have now, putting my hand through a spider web.  He has most of the tools already. He could use it as an excuse to look at drill press accessories.  This is what I'd like but in a darker wood:

I have wanted one of these for years, but if we move like we want to, we will have our own barn (we board the horses now) so I won't need a tack box.  I'll have a tack room with cabinets to keep my stuff in. I guess I won't be getting that tack box.

My horse has always been my stress relief.  With the kids getting older and into all their activities (making me chauffeur mom), it has been hard to find the time like I used to have to see her all the time and just relax. I can't wait until they are in our backyard!!  I can just walk outside and breathe her in and relax. Here is one of our girls:

Naturethroid Update

I haven't stepped on a scale lately to know if the new Nature-throid dose is enough for me but I am feeling OK. My underwear are getting a little baggy so I figured I would just use that as my guide until I get a battery for our scale - baggy drawers will be my guide.  Silly!

Seriously, I ordered a pair of jeans in one size smaller and I got them on and zipped without having to lay down on the bed to zip them.  I was thrilled with that!

My hair is good.  My eczema is almost all gone except for one small spot.  Doing good!!

Christmas in July

My kids are already making Christmas lists.  It's only July. My eight year old's list is two pages long!

What do I want?  I never have anything that I really want.  I'm content with what I have.

Increasing Naturethroid dose - a doctor who LISTENS to me

My doc did what I asked.  He raised my Nature-throid dose based on my last results (see previous post) and now I can see if I can lower or get off that T3 completely. I will take 1-1/2 grains of Nature-throid three times a day and see how I do.

I had lost eight pounds since my last appointment with him so that was fantastic.

I seem to be converting Nature-throid better to T3 (I can't convert Synthroid's T4 to T3...reverse T3 issues for me) so let's see if this works.  I'd love to get off the synthetic T3 entirely.

Thyroid & Cholesterol Lab Results for June 2013

>> 7/2/13

My newest labs are:

  • Cholesterol:  158 (Yes!!  It was borderline high the last time I had it run.)  (Tri 71, HDL 44, LDL 100)
  • TSH:  Less than 0.005 (below normal but I am OK with that.  I am more concerned about my Free T3 than TSH.  I don't even know why doctors use TSH anymore.)
  • Free T3:  4.2 (normal range 2.3 - 4.2)  I like it in the high normal range. It's when I feel best.
  • T4:  4.9 (normal range 4.9 - 12.9)  I prefer my T4 in the mid-normal range but with my T3 where it is, I'm not upset at these results.

I was taking 97.5mg of Nature-throid twice a day plus I was adding 25mcg of T3 twice a day.  The T3 twice a day was too much (I was getting jittery) so I reduced it to one dose of T3 a day then had these labs drawn.

What my lab results tell me is that I can have my doctor raise my Nature-throid dose to get my T4 in the mid-normal range, which might allow me to stop taking the synthetic T3.  Yes! That would be great.

Changed to NDT (Nature-throid) and doing better

>> 6/10/13

I got my new doctor to switch me to NDT (from Synthroid generic) about 6-8 weeks ago.  I am taking 97.5 mg of Nature-throid twice a day.  I was still a bit foggy and forgetful, and with my Reverse T3 problem, I added a 25 mcg dose of T3 twice a day.  I am feeling better and have lost a few more pounds (I see more cheekbones and less moonface) even after finishing up Insanity a couple weeks ago.

I'll get my labs drawn this week sometime and see if the dose is OK or I need to tweak it a bit.

Government Makes Money off Vaccines

>> 3/25/13

I was looking at this list on the NIH government page (http://www.ott.nih.gov/about_nih/FY2012top20.aspx) and saw the inventors listed. The inventors can make a ton of money off inventing things, correct? NCI (http://www.cancer.gov/), NIAID (http://www.niaid.nih.gov/), NIDCD (http://www.nidcd.nih.gov), NIEHS (http://www.niehs.nih.gov/), are shown as some of the inventors. These are ALL government web sites shown under "inventors". So, the government makes a ton of money off pushing medications and vaccines that aren't proven to not cause harm? Really, how many times has a drug or vaccine been given to the public, only to find out later it causes harm or death?

So, it's not just that Big Pharma is in bed with the government with money changing hands, etc. I would look at this more as government IS A PART OF Big Pharma.

Can you trust drugs where the person requiring their use is making money off of them?

It is actually fun.  I used to love to dance so I am trying to get my groove back while trying to get rid of baby belly from four kids.

I am starting Insanity after I do Hip Hop Abs for awhile. I have to work up to Insanity!
